Lennox is a district and former earldom located in the west-central Lowlands of Scotland. It borders the River Clyde to the north, the Campsie Fells and Gleniffer Braes to the east, and the Kilpatrick Hills to the west. The area was historically associated with the Clan Lennox, who were prominent in Scottish politics and had close ties to the Scottish monarchy.
In the 14th century, the Lennox became an earldom under the Stewart kings, and remained so until the early 18th century. The town of Dumbarton, located in the northern part of the Lennox, was an important royal castle and was also a center of trade and industry during the medieval period.
Today, the Lennox is a largely rural area, with a mixture of farmland, woodland, and moorland. It is home to several villages and small towns, including Balloch, Alexandria, and Helensburgh, which are popular tourist destinations due to their proximity to Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park.
